Our
Covenant with South Valley Unitarian Universalist Society
We
are this church. We are its hands, its heart, its voice. We are responsible
for and to this community, and we reaffirm and promote its seven principles:
* The inherent worth and dignity of every person.
* Justice, equity and compassion in human relations.
* Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our
congregations.
* A free and responsible search for truth and meaning.
* The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within
our congregations and society at large.
* The goal of world community, with peace, liberty, and justice for all.
* Respect for the interdependant web of all existance, of which we are
a part.
They
are the tools and the standards to promote a place and a people where spirit
is nurtured.
Our
Covenant with Ourselves
To
the seven UU principles we would add forgiveness -
releasing
oneself from the conflict of control,
so
that the behavior of others is their own fate,
and
one's responsibility is the continual refinement of his/her own path.
We
recognize that peace is an active process
that
requires commitment and adherence to another eight inner-workings
* We will stay in relationship even in disagreement or conflict;
* We will focus on issues, not management and not individuals;
* We will work to find balance between good, inclusive process
and
closure on substantive matters;
* We will presume good faith;
* We will be honest and direct with each other;
* We will practice forgiveness and non-judgment;
* We will attend to the energy level and spiritual tenor of meetings;
* We will treat each other with respect;
Our
Covenant with the Community
During
conflict in any community at large, CUUPs will remain neutral and stand
only on the side of Love.
South
Valley Unitarian Universalist Society is our church.
We
are not separate or other in any sense.
By
the love and work that CUUPs helps provide,
our
church and our community benefit.
